Iqbal
Yesterday, I saw the movie Iqbal, directed by Nagesh Kukunoor and produced by Subhash Ghai.
It is the story of Iqbal Khan (Shreyas Talpade) who is deaf and mute and who strives to become a national cricket player. The movie is about how he achieves this feat with lots of help from his kid sister (Shweta Prasad), his mother (Prateeksha Londkar) and his coach (Naseeruddin Shah).
The film’s cast includes other good actors like Girish Karnad and Yatin Karyekar. Kapil Dev plays a cameo as the national selector. Even though all actors make memorable performances, it is Shweta Prasad and Naseeruddin Shah that stands out, with Shrevas Talpade close behind.
This is the story of determination and will power, this is the story of love and support, and this is also the story of never losing sight of the goals and striving to achieve them against all odds. One of the most endearing movies I have seen in many years.
Do watch the movie, if you have already seen it. You will be moved by the love and inspired by the determination, fortitude and strength of human spirit in the face of tremendous adversity.

I saw it in the theatre. Is the CD out? I’d reviewed it ‘Success & Ability’. They haven’t used it yet. Maybe I’ll post it on my blog. I liked the film but couldn’t digest the fact that a boy who has not bowled to a batsman till late teens can become worldclass player in a jiffy.

The Director has used a lot of creative liberties to drive home the point. A really inspiring and well made film.

hey alexis,
hope you’re doing well. i don’t know if my mail keeps going to your spam folder or not, but just wanted to say hello. i’m doing okay by god’s grace. my opt started. i discontinued my part-time busboy job a month ago. i’m working as an editor for a production company in the bronx, nyc. i get $10/hr. it’s less but i’m sharpening my skills although not understanding new insight about the entertainment business. like you said – ‘ it’s a leap of faith’ . although the leap can be depressing and scary at times. and there are days when it’s a great rush!!
i just completed reading a great book – narendra jadhav’s UNTOUCHABLES. i hate breaking promises but i really hope god willing someday i will make a movie based on the books. but since it’s a period film – it might be extremely expensinve…. i pray i keep the promise.
martin
ps: email me when you get a chance alexis
