Blooks and Blooking…

A blook is a book published based on a blog and the art of writing a blook is called blooking. With the increasing popularity of blogs and increase in the number of bloggers, many blooks are being published every year. But most of the blooks do not do well in the market. But there are exceptions.

  1. Julie and Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen by Julie Powell
  2. Ignore Everybody by Hugh MacLeod
  3. Dork: The Incredible Adventures of Robin “Einstein” Varghese by Sidin Vadukut
  4. The Baghdad Blog by Salam Pax
  5. Diary of a Dysfunctional Flight Attendant: The Queen of Sky Blog by Ellen Simonetti
  6. Joel on Software by Joel Spolsky
  7. My War: Killing Time In Iraq by Colby Buzzell
  8. I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell by Tucker Max

The blooks Julie & Julia and I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell was made into movies too. A prize for the best blog-based book or blook was initiated in 2005—Blooker Prize. The Blooker Prize (formerly the Lulu Blooker Prize) is the world’s first literary prize for blooks. The first Blooker Prize was awarded in 2006, and it went to Julie and Julia by Julie Powell. The prize for 2007 was awarded to My War: Killing in Iraq by Colby Buzzell.

So trying your hand in blooking?

I wish you all success.

Happy blooking…

No wonder I was not getting any updates of your blog – didn’t know you had moved 🙂

Had seen ‘Dork’ in bookshop, didn’t realize it was Sidin’s (shame on me !)

Look forward to seeing one of your blooks..

Bindu: My mistake. I should have informed before moving, so that I would have come in the RSS feeds.

Dork is OK. Not great. It is like most other blooks. The blog post are much better than the books. I don’t know whether it is because we expect more from the books.

No, no blooks from me 🙂

But, I’m waiting to buy the rights of Reinventing the Wheel by one Mr. Alexis Leon to make a movie out of it. 😛
