Villanelle 12 – When You Finally Called

I am glad that you called me today,
I thought that you would be occupied,
I will come to your home right away.

I don’t have anything to do, so I can stay,
I know that you wanted time to decide,
I am glad that you called me today.

I knew your decision would mean delay,
If you wanted you could have lied,
I will come to your home right away.

If you wished, you could have made my day,
But you forgave me and I cried,
I am glad that you called me today.

It has been years; my hair is now gray,
I thought you’d wait until I died,
I will come to your home right away.

But now we are together—nothing to say,
We will live our lives with love and pride,
I am glad that you called me today,
I will come to your home right away.
