Villanelle 11 – The Heart’s Cove

I have lost my dear dove,
Unseen her tearful eyes;
I’ll go and find my love.

My neglect was a shove
Too cruel for her to rise—
I have lost my dear dove.

I should have used a silk glove,
Cherished her as a prize;
I’ll go and find my love.

I hid her in heart’s cove,
Whispered too many lies—
I have lost my dear dove.

Such beauty was my love,
She craved freedom, not ties;
I’ll go and find my love.

I beg her return from above,
To fill my void with surprise:
I have lost my dear dove—
I’ll go and find my love.
