Villanelle 18 – The Boat in My Bay

I never missed a soul as I miss you,
Your shadow lingers night and day,
How did our hearts drift? I have no clue.

I dream of love beginning fresh and true,
A vow to bind you close, to stay,
I never missed a soul as I miss you.

My love is clay, shaped only by you,
Your touch can mold me any way,
You hold the secret—I have no clue.

We kissed, we walked beneath the skies of blue,
Yet still you turned and flew away,
I never missed a soul as I miss you.

Without your warmth, my world has lost its hue,
I long to know you’re well today,
I want you near, though I have no clue.

But now the tide has carried you back through,
Your boat rests safely in my bay,
I never missed a soul as I miss you,
And joy returns, though I have no clue.
