Sanctuary in Glass

Our garden is under siege—
armies of pests, small and vast,
marching through leaves and roots.
We answer with potions:
organic, chemical, biological—
yet the battle never ends.
A moment’s rest,
and the invaders return.

Weary of war,
I dreamed of a sanctuary:
a glass world, sealed and shining,
where plants might breathe in peace.
I gathered soil and green shoots,
built a terrarium in my study—
a miniature Eden.
But one morning,
the garden inside was gone.
Only two snails remained,
silent fugitives
smuggled in with the plants.

So I began again.
This time, every grain of soil,
every stem, every leaf
was chosen with care,
cleansed of hidden trespassers.
Now the terrarium glows—
a thriving, secret forest,
untouched by the world outside.
