Golden Hour

The slanting rays of sun in morning and evening—
the golden hour—are rich with amber hues.
Photographers wait, knowing its glow
will make each image shimmer.

The morning rays bring the light,
the evening rays usher in the night.

During the golden hour the sun’s mood shifts;
it mellows, and in its warmth the light
takes on yellow, orange, and red.
Its heart melts, diffusing softness,
reducing harsh highlights and shadows.
The low angle of the rays creates
long, intriguing shadows and depth.
It soothes, flatters, and lends a magic
that hides imperfections, revealing beauty.

Photographers call it the “magic hour.”
The sun’s spell makes portraits breathe,
skin glowing with warmth and tone.
Landscapes deepen with drama,
colors rich, cinematic, dreamlike.

It always amazes me to watch the golden hour.
It makes me wonder at the gifts
nature has placed before us.
