I was a good student who loved to study,
Each day I learned with focus ever ready.
At times with buddy, side by side we’d study,
Our steady progress filled us full and heady.
We aced the exams, won honors, medals gleaming,
Our knowledge swelled like waters in the dams.
We drank it deep as rose petals’ soft dreaming,
A feast of wisdom, sweet as nature’s psalms.
But one day tragedy claimed my dearest friend—
In sorrow drowned, survivor guilt beset me.
My sole companion lost, my heart to rend,
Depressed, I crumbled, needing to reset me.
With help I rose from darkness, newly whole,
Still sad, yet strong—no more the anguished soul.
