Spices of Our Soul

I come from a land perfumed with pepper and cloves,
where turmeric glows like sunlight on the tongue,
coriander whispers green secrets,
and ginger sparks fire in the blood.

Cardamom sweetens the breath of mornings,
cumin steadies the earth beneath our feet,
nutmeg hums with quiet warmth,
while fenugreek, mustard, and chilies
scatter sparks across the pan.

We gather them, blend them,
masalas singing in copper bowls—
a chorus of heat, fragrance, memory.
Indian food carries these voices,
rich with the music of spice.

Wherever we wander, the flavors follow,
shaping kitchens far from home,
teaching tongues new rhythms of taste.
Without them, our lives lose color;
with them, we season joy and sorrow alike.

Spices heal, they guard, they soothe—
medicine folded into daily bread,
remedies whispered from grandmother’s hands.
For us, there is no life without spice,
for spice is the pulse of our living.
