The Dance of a Lifetime

My dear man, come and dance with me.
I don’t care if it’s Foxtrot, Waltz,
Salsa, Twist, Tango, Rumba, or Cha-Cha—
as long as it is you with whom I dance.

I am not a skilled dancer;
my feet are clumsy, yet my heart is brave,
always willing to learn from a master.
I will follow in your footsteps
if you lead with steady grace.

I may step on your toes now and then.
Forgive me—I will learn quickly.
Hold me close, whisper sweet things,
twirl me, lift me, and catch me.

I want you to fall in love with me,
to take me to dinner and dance
from time to time.
I want you to propose,
to place the ring upon my finger
when I say “Yes.”

Let us marry soon
and make our house a home with love.
I want to bear your children
and raise them together with care.
I want to see our grandchildren
and spoil them with tenderness.

I want to grow old with you,
and when the music fades,
let me bow before you—
for I cannot imagine life without you.
