I was resting quietly on the ocean floor.
Suddenly, a huge volcano erupted beneath me.
I was forced to move, and so my family and I
rushed toward the shore.
We sped through the deep sea,
without harming the ocean liners that crossed our path.
But as we neared the coast, our speed slowed,
and we grew tall and immense.
We pushed against the shore,
sweeping away all that stood before us.
Ships in the harbor shattered,
and houses, lives, and memories fell.
Many who heard the early warnings
escaped with their lives, but many perished.
It took years for the land to heal,
yet sorrow lingered in us.
We were helpless—
we had no choice but to rise.
